There comes a time in everyone’s life where they need to answer a question - What am I going to do with my life? For me it was 2019, just before the covid pandemic struck the world. I had just made my first rechargeable fan so I was sure the answer to that question was electrical engineering.
Then fast forward to the covid pandemic, it was a sunny Saturday, I had done all my chores and there was light so I was casually watching TV, they were showing a movie and it was about some IT guys who had been fired from a company and where trying to get revenge on the company by hacking into their servers. Here is what i noticed; they were so smart, they always typed really fast, and they have so much power even though they are not known, omor it’s safe to say that my curiosity was piqued, at this point i was sure that I want to learn to code one day.
So I opened my phone, luckily had just enough data to Google “how to code” and i was immediately bombarded with different kinds of answers which made me confused, though after a lot of filtering I got introduced to an app on Play store called grasshopper- which is an app to learn to code by Google, with the level of motivation in me I immediately downloaded the app and started my first lesson.
That very night I had started bragging to my brother that I am learning to code now, I even went as far as chatting up my friend to rub it in that I am now officially a tech bro and it is just a matter of time before I start making my millions.
About 3 weeks later I was sitting on my couch learning with the app and after one wicked lesson it dawned on me that, after putting in my blood, sweat and tears (I am not being metaphorical about the tears part) into this app the way I felt just kept reminding me of a meme where the guy was like: 3 days now I dey for road I nor go front, I nor go back. It felt like i was getting more confused and i wasn't understanding anything, one thing I have noticed about life is that if you are wasting your time on something you will get the feeling.
So I went back to Play store and started checking the comment on the app and they were not good, one guy was like “This app is rubbish” and another said “Anybody that is serious about learning to code should not download this app”.
As I saw that I just had this hope, because it felt like I didn’t have a future in tech while using Grasshopper to learn to code. Luckily I found another app called Mimo so I downloaded that and the app started teaching me html and how to build websites.
Fast forward few years later, I can say that was the best decision I ever made.
No matter what stage in life you are or where you find yourself, it is always important we stay curious because curiosity aids growth.
